As we head into the holidays, it can become harder to schedule writing time, and even if you do carve some out, to get your muse to cooperate. Understanding the right and left brains, and how they work, can help us find tricks to maximize our writing time.
The left brain is responsible for logic and language, while the right is responsible for creativity and intuition. Often when we feel stressed, stuck, or uninspired, we need to get out of our left brain and stimulate the right.
Here are tips to jumpstart your imaginative and creative right brain:
Move your body - go for a short, brisk walk, stretch, dance, or do a few jumping jacks. Movement is good for your health and clears out the sludge, lowers blood pressure, and gives you more energy.
Do something spontaneous.
Create an inspiration list.
Listen to music.
Open a book to a random page and read.
Cook or craft. Doing something spacial, yet creative, stimulates both sides of the brain.
Take a shower or listen to water/rain/ocean waves. Water is stimulating.
Write in short sprints.
Free write.
Celebrate when you DO fit writing into your busy schedule. Way to go!
May you find time to create new worlds,
